OPINION: Climate Change-The Cost of Inaction

THIS PIECE IS WRITTEN BASED ON THE AUTHOR'S BELIEFS AND OPINIONS, THEY DO NOT REFLECT WHAT THE INQUIRER ITSELF BELIEVES. WE RESPECT THE RIGHT TO HAVING YOUR OWN PLATFORM FOR YOUR OPINIONS.

Climate change is something that has been in our planet for millenia, for millennia our planet has gone through the ice-age and warm periods, constantly adjusting itself like thermostat but then you might be asking yourself “if climate change has been with us for millenia why should we worry about our future?” Well that is because before the Industrial Revolution it took the earth 5000 years just to warm up by 5 degrees and scientists believe it will be 20 times faster than that amount this century, making it harder for animals to migrate or adapt to the climate, causing them to near extinction. As of all we know this can also cause the ice in the arctic to melt faster, causing big floods, and also make hurricanes stronger or cause longer droughts, even causing health risks like heat waves as global temperature rises and as heat waves become much more intense and frequent. This poses an extreme amount of health risk because the most vulnerable group of people that can get affected are the elderly, children and people with disabilities, not excluding another health risk that are the geographical range of disease vectors carried such as fleas, mosquitoes and ticks. Rising temperatures, changes in rainfall patterns, and increased humidity create an ideal season for these types of insects to breed.

Now after reading this you might be saying “how is climate change our fault? It’s the rich people’s fault for not helping our planet” that’s because it’s not just the rich people’s fault it’s also ours. Think about it, how much water do you waste everyday at home, or maybe even wasting electricity by not closing the lights, taking off the adaptor when you are not using it or maybe even littering outside, or using our motorbikes or cars to travel for short distances when we can get there by just walking or using a bike, or even the meat we eat can cause climate change. We are all villains in this world so after reading you should ask yourself “what should we do then?” and my opinion says that we should change the way we do things in our world, such as using less water when we are in the shower, using less electricity by turning off the lights when we are not using it, eating less meat and eating more vegetables and using our cars and motorbikes less. I'm not writing this for our sake only but for our children’s sake in the future because for sure none of us wants to see our children suffering in this cruel world, we all want our children to live a very long and happy life. Spread the word of how dangerous climate change is to your family and friends so that we can change the way we do things and make our planet natural again. “The truth cannot be avoided it can only be ignored”
